Best of the Met 2014

 Opulence, elegance, couture and class all at one event, what else could it be other than the Met Gala?
 Last night the Metropolitan in New York hosted the biggest night for fashion, the Met Gala. The theme this year inspired by Charles James, an Anglo-American couturier, under the title 'Beyond Fashion: White Tie and Decorations.'
 Charles James made magnificent gowns and every detail was crucial to the final product, the way he would sew the ruching on a certain fabric or how he constructed the dress so it would fall perfectly when worn, his gowns were so decadent that some weighed more than one stone!
 Charles James dresses are the portrayal of elegance and sophistication, the perfect theme for the Met, tuxes and ball gowns, seemingly much easier to dress than last years punk theme, however not everyone thought so and sadly the ball gowns were few and far.
 Below I have the best dressed suited for the theme, while the ball gowns were few and far last night does who did commit whole heartily to the theme looked beautiful and here are my favourites;
• Suki Waterhouse in Burberry, the pastel pink colour matches her English rose peaches and cream complexion perfectly, I was surprised at how refined she was, until I saw that she was wearing big black wedges underneath, making her outfit that little bit more her.
• Hailee Steinfeld looked radiant in a custom monochrome Prabal Gurung, accessorised with matching monochrome jewellery and paired with nude platform heels.
• Arizona Muse wearing Zac Posen, the bold orange colour and silhouette as much a statement as any other dress at the Met.
• Liu Wen in a green Zac Posen, the hips jut out in such a way so similar to Charles James, it's clear she did her homework on the couturier before choosing a dress.
• Zac Posen strikes third time lucky when comedian Sarah Silverman stepped out in this burgundy stunner.
• Scratch that, Zac Posen might has well have been the theme of the night as another beauty, Karen Elson steps out in one of his creations, a regal pastel pink gown.
• Tabitha Simmons in a Dolce & Gabbana gown, the flower details are what makes it onto this list.
• Coco Brandolini in a Venice art print Dolce & Gabbana gown.
• I just adore the Oscar De La Renta gown and the jewelled gloves Sarah Jessica Parker wore last night, this is what you wear to honour Charles James, it's just so classic and elegant. I hope SJP's choice of wearing gloves brings them back, because what's more elegant than a pair of classic gloves?
• I saved my favourite for last, Karolina Kurkova in a Marchesa gown. This is the embodiment of the theme "Charles James: Beyond Fashion" this gown is beyond fashion, it's art. Nearly all of the flowers on the dress were hand painted, which is unbelievable as they're so intricate, at first glance I thought they were done by digital print.
 That's it for another year folks, the perfume's faded, heels taken off and jewellery put away and dresses carefully hung up. (For the most part that is - unless you follow Victoria Beckham on twitter who posted a picture of hers on the floor)
